Characteristics of Corrosion Scales on Pipeline Steel in CO2- Saturated NaCl Brine Solution

چکیده
The present study is aimed to conduct the experiments in various corrosive environments at various temperatures and constant partial pressures of carbon dioxide (CO2) under dynamic condition to understand the basic mechanism and corrosion resistance of carbon steel. Usually, API grade steels are used in the pipeline for carrying the crude oil and gas. Corrosion problems constitute the major operating difficulty in the oil and gas industry particularly in the transportation system from refinery to the different source station and have caused unscheduled downtime, production losses and reduced equipment life. The presence of CO2 and addition of H2S in the solution is an important parameter which affects the severity of corrosion in steel. Thus it is a challenging and most important task to study the corrosion of steel in most affected corrosive environment. Few experiments on API X-52 grade steel have been carried out at different temperature range (30-120) at a constant partial pressure of carbon dioxide i.e 100 psi to know the severity of corrosion. The exposed sample has been analyzed using x-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscope. Keywords-API X-52 grade steel, partial pressure of CO2, crude oil

متن کامل09476 - a Study of Factors Affecting Co2 Corrosion and Inhibitor Effectiveness Using a Multi-phase Flowloop
A mini-flowloop was developed to study CO2 corrosion and corrosion/erosion interactions, and to assess the effectiveness of inhibitors under conditions that simulate multi-phase pipelines. The miniflowloop was used to study the effect of testing time, steel chemistry, velocity, temperature, fluid chemistry, sand and inhibitors on corrosion rates. The measured corrosion rates in inhibited and un...

The aim of this research was to investigate the influence of metallurgy on the corrosion behaviour of separate weld zone (WZ) and parent plate (PP) regions of X65 pipeline steel in a solution of deionised water saturated with CO2, at two different temperatures (55 °C and 80 °C) and at initial pH~4.0. In addition, a non-electrochemical immersion experiment was also performed at 80 °C in CO2, on ...
